About the Creator of This Course

Dr. Mark Fagiano is a professor who specializes in pragmatism, ethics, and social political philosophy. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from Emory University and an M.A. in the anthropological study of religion from the G.T.U. Berkeley. As a pragmatist, Mark’s research, writings, and lectures are inspired by the relational and pluralistic approach of William James, which has contributed to the structure of his forthcoming book called Relational Empathy. This book is based on his essay outlining his theory of empathy, for which he was awarded the 2018 Robert Papazian Annual Essay Prize on Themes from Ethics and Political Philosophy. Mark is currently working on a second book, Why We Don’t Know What Happiness Is: A Global and Transhistorical Exploration of a Cherished Ideal, which he hopes to complete by the end of next year.
