The 3 Month Mechanic

How I Became an Aircraft Mechanic and Make $10,000 - $15,000 + Each Month

Whether you’re already an aircraft mechanic or if you’re still just thinking about this career, keep reading to find out how I do it...

The 3 Month Mechanic Creator Mike Connelly

Hi, my name is Mike Connelly.

I made this website to help you if:
  • You’re thinking about becoming an aircraft mechanic and you want a solid blueprint you can follow

  • You’re already an aircraft mechanic and you want to make more money and have more success

I became an aircraft mechanic back in 2008. When I first started I was making around $700 a week.

Within a couple of years I was up to $2,000 + every week. Right now my weekly checks average anywhere from $3,000 - $4,000.

I was making enough money within a couple of years that I realized I didn’t even have to work a full year to support myself and my family.

It wasn’t long before I was only working around 10 months out of the year, instead of 12 like most people.

Eventually I started to work only 6 months, taking the other 6 months off.

Now I work as an aircraft mechanic only 3 months out of the year. I spend the rest of the year with my family and friends just enjoying life.

Even During the COVID 19 Global Pandemic Aircraft Mechanics Doing What I Do Are Still Making Excellent Money

Aircraft mechanics working through the COVID 19 global pandemic

Right now I’m still able to bring in around $13,500 a month working my current gig.

Becoming an aircraft mechanic can be a great career choice:

Aircraft maintenance is a multi-billion-dollar industry.

Airlines of all sizes have to make sure their aircraft are in good working order, and billions of dollars are spent on aircraft maintenance every year.

As long as thousands of airplanes, helicopters, and drones are flying, aircraft mechanics will always be needed:

The number of aircraft in service increases every year.

As more aircraft are produced, more manufacturing and maintenance work will be required, and more aircraft mechanics will be needed to do all of this work.

There are ways to make a lot of money in the career if you know what to do:

Not all aviation maintenance jobs pay the same, but if you know how to get the proper training you can make sure you will qualify for the highest-paying jobs.

Here’s How You Can Get Started & Have the Same Success I Have

There are 3 basic steps:

Aircraft mechanic working inside a Boeing 757
Become a mechanic (If you aren’t one already)

Aircraft mechanic looking at a Boeing 757 engine
Know how to get the right kind of experience

Airplane flying
Know how to find the highest-paying jobs

Many people think there are only two ways they can enter this career: by joining the military, or by paying to go to college or technical school.

However, what they don’t realize is that these are not the only options. There is a much easier way to become an aircraft mechanic.

Once you understand the steps you need to take, you can immediately begin training as a mechanic and start making money.

Once you know how, it’s very easy to become an aircraft mechanic.

You can do this by becoming an aircraft mechanic apprentice.

Once I learned how to become an apprentice, I was able to become an aircraft mechanic without having a license.

The best thing was: By becoming an apprentice I didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars and 2 years in an aviation school.

I didn’t have my A&P license (FAA Airframe and Powerplant license) or any other type of certification when I started my career.

Once you become an apprentice, you need to get the right kind of experience.

This is a critical step that many aircraft mechanics simply miss or don’t understand.

There are different types of jobs you can do in this field. For example, you can work on the aircraft frame as a structures mechanic, or you can work on the engines as an A&P mechanic.

Not every position pays the same. This is very important to understand.

You need to make sure you’re training on jobs that will allow you to make the most money.

I’m going to show you how you can make sure you’re getting the right kind of experience so you can get the highest-paying jobs.

Once you have the proper experience, you can go after the highest-paying jobs.

The key is knowing how to find them.

You can’t just become an aircraft technician, go work for a large airline, and have a great career like you could 20 or 30 years ago.

You must know where to find the highest-paying jobs and also how to get them.

I’m going to show you how I find only the highest-paying jobs, and how I make sure I get the jobs I choose.

Many new aircraft mechanics make these mistakes and then they don’t make as much money as they should.

Even some older aircraft mechanics struggle in the career simply because they don’t know how to take advantage of the best opportunities that are out there.

Many of them are simply still stuck in the past.

The aviation field has evolved, but many mechanics don’t know how to navigate this current, multi-billion dollar industry.

This is why I created The 3 Month Mechanic

For years people have asked me how I do what I do, so I decided to share my knowledge so that others can take advantage of the best opportunities and have a high-paying career as an aviation mechanic.

I took all of this information and put it into The 3 Month Mechanic:

The 3 Month Mechanic Book

How I make $10,000 - $15,000+ a month as an aircraft mechanic

How you can get started without having a license

Which of the highest-paying aircraft mechanic positions you should choose

How to get specific training that you will need to have the best opportunities

Exactly how to find the highest-paying jobs

How I take up to 9 months off every single year

And much, much more...

Using your book I was able to find a job in Florida that’s paying real good. I always like being a mechanic but I struggled to make money. It seemed like every year was the same old thing.

I knew being an aircraft mechanic was a good job I could just never find anything out there. If I wouldn’t have read your book, I would probably be working in construction again and I damn sure wouldn’t be making 9 grand a month.

Thanks!

Mike, thanks for sending me the email. I really got a lot out of your book and I’ve been using some of the resources to try and find something up in the north west.

I think I want to become an avionics technician, but I wanted to talk to you some more before I decided. Do you have any other advice for that? Send me an email if you can.

Anyway, thanks again for all of your help.

When I first started my career in aviation, I had no idea that I could make as much money as I make right now. I knew I would make at least $60,000 - $70,000 a year, but I thought that would be the limit.

It wasn’t long after I started my first job as an apprentice mechanic that I met other aircraft mechanics who showed me the huge paychecks they were getting every week.

Some of these weekly paychecks were nearly $3,000.

I soon found out how I could also make that kind of money. But not only that, I also found out that I could go to all sorts of cool places while making great money.

I’ve worked in Italy, Australia, and even Japan. But I mostly work in the United States.

If you’re like I was and have always wanted to have a high-paying career in aviation, you’ll be amazed at what these methods will allow you to do.

Using the methods in The 3 Month Mechanic, it’s easy to become an aircraft mechanic. But it takes more than just knowing these methods...

The secret is knowing what kind of aircraft mechanic you should become.

How you enter the career will affect how much money you can make.

Anyone can use these methods to have a high-paying career once they understand how everything works.

These methods are not just “gimmicks” or other bullshit. They are part of a tried-and-true system that works. The methods have worked for thousands of others, and they can work for you as well.
Many aircraft mechanics working all over the world have used the methods I discuss in The 3 Month Mechanic.

There are a lot of a&p license jobs online but a lot of them only pay around $25 bucks an hour. I’ve been making pretty good money before but I am ready to make even more.

I knew there were aircraft mechanics making a lot of money but I didn’t think contractors made that much. I’ve always worked direct, but for some of the smaller MRO companies.

Around a week from now I start a job that’s paying $45 working on helicopter frames and skins. I’m really anxious to get started because in that job you can work 6 days straight.

I have been working in aviation maintenance for over 15 years and I have also made a lot of money contracting. Some of the past jobs I took I was making over $40 per hour. I mainly bought your book because I wanted to know how it is possible that you have so much time off.

I thought it was probably a bunch of baloney but now I understand how you do it. I never really thought about how much money I make like that. I’m planning to try and work maybe 6 months then take 6 off. I don’t think I could take off 9 the whole year because I have so much debt, but maybe when I pay some down I can try it."

As I mentioned earlier I’ve worked in many different countries, including Italy, Australia, and Japan.

There are aircraft mechanics right now working in all kinds of exotic locations.

Of course, you don't have to go to other countries if you don't want to. Now I usually stay in the U.S. so I can be close to my family.

Once you begin your career, you will meet other mechanics doing exactly the same thing.

Networking with these other mechanics can bring you a lot of opportunities.

I discuss how to take advantage of these opportunities to advance your career as an aircraft mechanic in The 3 Month Mechanic.

Five Star Review The best book I’ve found on this subject

I have been buying other books because my goal is to become an airframe and powerplant mechanic. I bought some of the FAA books and I also read The Aircraft Mechanic, but I actually liked this book more than those. This book has really good advice on the A&P license and I appreciated the resources the author of the book listed. After reading this I can’t wait to get started!

Five Star Review Unique book

I didn’t really know what to expect when I first bought this. To be honest I was confused with the whole ‘3 month’ thing and didn’t understand what he was talking about. But it becomes clear as soon as you start going over the information. For those reading who might be confused like I was, basically this book is about how the author became an aircraft mechanic, how he got his experience, etc. He then goes into how he finds certain jobs that pay really well that he can work on a short term contract. So he finds a job, goes there and works for 3 months, then goes back home. Evidently some of these jobs pay a lot of money because the people who do the work need the right skills. He goes over all of this in the book and at the end I found the information to be unique and helpful.

Five Star Review Two Thumbs Up From An Aircraft Technician
By Chris P. on July 24, 2017

I am currently working as a Composites Technician but I’ve also worked as a Structures and A&P Technician for many years. Altogether I have been in aviation maintenance for nearly 25 years. I purchased these books basically to see what all of the fuss was about, and I was honestly expecting to be disappointed. Instead (to my surprise) what I found was actually a solid book that offered a lot of helpful tips and advice, even for someone who’s been in the industry for quite a long time.

The author’s take was quite fresh and it was very interesting to read about his experiences. I also got my start the same way the author did, but it wasn’t really called an ‘apprenticeship’ back in those days, it was just known as training on the job (same thing). I have decided to follow the author’s advice and using his information I’ve actually found a number of high-paying contracting jobs that I would probably never have thought to look for. I’ve actually never even considered taking those types of positions because I’ve always worked for the same company for long stretches of time (I’ve been with my current employer for over 12 years).

If nothing else, this book has inspired me to advance my career and my pay, and I give it two thumbs up even for that alone. I would recommend this book to both current technicians and also people who are thinking about this career.

This book is a great resource for early career A&Ps but also other types of aircraft mechanics. While it's geared towards people who are not yet mechanics, as well as mechanics just getting their start, I would also highly recommend the book to more seasoned mechanics that are looking to pivot careers or who are trying to make more money. It's never too late to get a fresh perspective on networking, finding good jobs, and maximizing your career potential.

Five Star Review Must-read resource for aircraft mechanic students and young professionals
By Darryl L. on July 17, 2018

This book is a practical manual and guide for becoming an aircraft mechanic apprentice and starting your job in the aviation field. You can tell that the author knows what he's talking about and speaks from experience. I really appreciate the fact that it tells the truth about finding a good job – it can be difficult to find the right job for you, even in a high-demand field.

I wish this book had been available to me as a student, even before I chose to become an A&P mechanic. Many A&P students are “sold” the idea that it will be easy to find a job, and thus don’t put forth proper effort in their initial training and job searches, assuming that simply having an A&P certificate will result in high-paying job offers. The content about gaining the right experience is a good read and good advice.

If you are an A&P student or young professional, you need this book. It can you time, money, and angst in your job hunt. I will be recommending this book to other people I mentor as a must-read resource.

Five Star Review Unique Advice

There are certain skills that aircraft mechanics learn when they're in school. How to get one of the best jobs isn't typically one of them. Once you get out into the real world it’s totally different than in the classroom.

The author does a great job of offering new and old mechanics a unique strategy for their careers. As the author points out, and something I’d never really thought about before, the aviation industry has changed. It isn’t the same as it was a long time ago when you could go to school, get a job with a big airline, and be set for life.

Everything is evolving and the author has given some good advice on how to make more money in this new field of aviation. It’s something that ALL mechanics should think about...

Five Star Review One problem...
By Brad Jennings on October 25, 2016
Verified Purchase
Yes this book is a nice read and has good advice about working as an airline mechanic as other reviewers have mentioned. But there is a problem and that is some of the advice is not practical for someone like me.

Yes it would be nice to only work a few months out of the year or even only 6 months of the year, but if there wasn’t any good contracting jobs near my home I couldn’t travel because I have to take care of my elderly parents.

I have had this problem before when looking for work when I worked in home remodeling. You would think that there is always a house around that needs work so I could make money. But a lot of the work I had to travel and it got to a point when I could no longer leave for a week at a time to do jobs.

I guess I am still looking for a way to make good money but not have to go more than a few minutes from my home which I don’t know how to do.

I liked how the book is structured in a chronological order to give you a solid explanation of the steps to become an aircraft mechanic. This book is somewhat step by step. It doesn't tell you to do only one thing like get a job only at a specific airline, which is expected since the aviation industry and businesses can change.

The only thing I would have liked to see more of is more information on working in countries other than the U.S. The author does discuss this but I wish he would have went into more detail. Great book nonetheless, get it!

Five Star Review Two Thumbs Up

This book lays out clear steps, and is great for goal-setting. It is to-the-point, and won’t take up too much if your life to finish reading. It is basically a road map for how to become a mechanic, get the right kind of experience then find the best paying jobs so that you can make a lot of money and only work part time if you want. I thought it was great and I do plan to put the information to work in the very near future.

Five Star Review Enjoyable and informative if you’re a new A&P technician

This is a very no-nonsense book that was fun to read. The author speaks from his experiences on the path to his making good money working as an A&P technician. I just started working as an A&P technician myself, which is why I bought the book in the first place. He offers direct advice and I found the information to be quite valuable.

Five Star Review Good for someone just starting

This is a good book for the person just starting out in the industry or someone who wants to know about the industry. Michael has a lot of tips and advice that only someone that has been doing this type of work in recent years can give. I am about to start in an apprenticeship following the advice in this book.

Five Star Review Like he says in the book...

Like he says in the book I always thought you always had to go to college I didnt know there was another ways to work on aircraft. I truly glad that I found this because I was about to start taking classes and they are expensive. Now my plane is to start as an aprentice instead of school. If you are think about working on airplanes or helicopters like me then I think you will like this.

Five Star Review I highly recommend this to any A&P mechanic or A&P student

Being an A&P student with two months of schooling left, this book has definitely given me some new insight on things I should start doing. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is still in school or someone that is early in their career. It gives you insight into areas of this career that schools don’t really talk about. You are literally getting insight from an A&P that has been through it and has the tools to better your career and get you on a career path where you are able to be successful and earn a good income.
