I started thinking about niches all the time. When I watched TV, I would jot down the niches of advertisers in commercials. When I read magazines and newspapers, I would also pay attention to the advertisements and write down the niches.

I also did the same thing when I drove down the highway and saw billboards or when I went to sporting events and saw the list of sponsors.

I also began paying close attention to recent articles on sites like EzineArticles.com and news on press release sites. And I watched Flippa and other website marketplaces for profitable websites for sale.

I added all of these niches to a database and after a while, I had a HUGE list of potential niches.

My next move was to begin compiling estimated traffic data and estimated AdWords cost-per-click (CPC) for each niche and try to come up with a formula to forecast potential AdSense income.

This was the tricky part.

Then last year, Google released a blog post that helped me finalize my data. In a May 2010 blog post, Google revealed that it pays AdSense publishers 68% of each click. Now I had my formula…
 

At this point, my database contained thousands and thousands of potential niches. Using a variety of sources, I added estimated data for search volume and estimated AdWords cost-per-click (CPC).
Using the data from Google about AdSense publisher payout, I was able to create a formula to forecast potential AdSense income.

This formula gave me a rough estimate of the profitability of a given niche and I was able to compare this data to another niche. This allowed me to start picking out winning niches faster than ever before.

AIPC stands for AdSense Income Per Click. Using publicly released information by Google, we created a formula to estimate potential income per click on AdSense sites. The important thing to remember is that this is a rough estimation. We cannot guarantee that this number is accurate. You should not use this number to forecast earnings. Instead, use it to compare niches to decide which ones have the best likelihood of being profitable.

Where Did You Get Your Search Volume Estimates?

We gathered estimated search volume data from a variety of resources and then ran it through our own formula to estimate traffic volume. This number is a rough estimate over time and is not guaranteed to be accurate. You should do your own search volume research before choosing a niche.

Where Did You Get Your CPC Estimates?

To estimate the cost-per-click, we use a range of data we have collected from multiple sources reporting estimated search engine CPC for Google advertisers. Since this information comes from multiple sources, we have created a weighted formula to average out the CPC. This number is a rough estimate over time and is not guaranteed to be accurate.
